TEHRAN -– Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs, Alireza Sheikh-Attar, will soon take over as Iran’s new ambassador to Brussels, an official who talked on condition of anonymity said on Sunday.

“Considering the special position of Belgium as the headquarters of the European Union which houses influential EU organizations it was decided that the deputy foreign minister for economic affairs take on the duty,” the official told MNA.

Sheikh-Attar had previously served as Iran’s ambassador to New Delhi and has had many administrative and media posts.

At the moment Sheikh-Attar is accompanying President Mahumd Ahmadinejad in his visits to Cuba, Venezuela and New York.
